Pressing the back switch smoothly arcs the back of the seat upward and downward, but the front switch only creates a motor sound accompanied by a seat vibration. Pulling the middle switch upward arcs the back of the seat upward and downward just like the back switch, although the vibration and loudness is heard, just like with the front switch.

Got the headrest off, but no joy. There's a wire running down the outside post into the seat. No way to uncouple the connection without taking the entire back of the seat off. Fortunately, Wet Okole anticipated this and made the top section of the covers large enough to go over the headrest. What a PITA, thanks FCA.xQWaaTz.
